Healing From Divorce Scriptures

We all go through many trials, heartaches, and transitions throughout life, and divorce can sometimes be the path God is bringing us through. As we clearly know bad situations happen and from those situations God always makes it good. We made it easy and pulled out divorce scriptures that speak to this chapter in your journey.

The important thing to realize is God doesn’t define us by the challenges we face, but that we keep turning to him for our foundation and support. We have to remember the Devil’s main goal is to make God look bad to us. So he will do things in our lives, like divorce to make us question God and wonder why He would put us through this. That little bit of doubt and question can lead you down a path away from an intimate relationship with our own Father and true source of healing during these times.

So, with that in mind I pulled out various scriptures I reference in my book Destiny After Divorce to share with you the powerful words and promises that are the truth we need to cling to during rough times, and not the lies that creep in. Those lies only keep you from healing and fully stepping into the path God is paving for you.

Healing Divorce Scriptures

Hebrews 4:1-2 NIV

“Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. For we also have had the good news proclaimed to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed. “

We must keep pressing through the trials and believe! The Israelite's were given the promise of living in the land that was set aside for them but they got caught up in the day to day journey rather than looking forward to their inheritance as sons and daughters of the Most High God! They had an orphan mindset!

John 1:12

“Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.”

It says all…not some people, or people who have fallen away or never knew God. It says all and it means all!

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

The resolution to this is to understand that our Father’s invitation is to a place of unconditional acceptance and rest in our unique, God-given identity.

1 John 1:9

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness”

We are reconciled to our Heavenly Father through repentance and confession.

Romans 5:10

He promises restoration for us, “For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.”

James 1:2-4 NIV

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers (and sisters), whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

Remember that no matter what you’ve ever done or failed to do, God loves you and wants to make you whole.

Matthew 5:4 NIV

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted."

If we put walls around our negative feelings we also block out our positive feelings. A vital part of the healing process is to weep and even sob out our grief.

Psalm 147:3

He promises to “heal the broken-hearted and bind up their wounds.”

He wants to be exactly what you need at this time in your life just as He does at any other time in your life. He doesn’t love you any less because you’re divorced and He still has an amazing plan for your life!

The Scriptures Are Our Truth

These are just a small portion of scriptures I use throughout my entire book Destiny After Divorce. Which one spoke to you the most? What is God trying to remind you of during this season of life?

His promises have never changed, and He is the same loving and gracious God. We just need to remember those promises and live them in our daily life.

With God's help, the support of safe friends, and working through the recovery process you will find healing from your hurt and pain. Please realize that your present circumstances are never final and that the only real failure is not to get up one more time than we fall down. Chase after Him and He will bring you the desires of your heart!
